WhatsApp released New Security Feature for Desktop Clients – ‘Code Verify’

WhatsApp has released a New Security extension for WhatsApp beta desktop clients. In a previous update, WhatsApp had released a new underdevelopment feature that brings settings to manage two-step verification within the desktop client.

Just after announcing that the platform is working on bringing these new settings for web users, now the Instant Messaging app and Cloudflare are announcing ‘Code Verify’ a new feature that is reported to improve the security while using WhatsApp web.

According to the reports with the help of this new security extension, you can now verify the stability of your version on WhatsApp web. This makes sure that you are using an authentic version of WhatsApp.

WhatsApp announcing Code Verify for Desktop clients

WhatsApp is adding another layer of security to your WhatsApp experience with the new improved web browser extension. The installation of this new extension will help you with the automatic detection of the version code of WhatsApp web that you are using. So, you will know if the version you are using is authentic and untempered or has been altered by any harmful body.

If this new security extension ‘Code Verify’ successfully confirms that the WhatsApp web version you are using is genuine, it proves that your WhatsApp version has not been altered by hackers and other destructive people. This is an important security feature to verify the integrity of your WhatsApp web version.

The extension is reported to run automatically when you start using WhatsApp web after its installation. The report further mentions that the ‘Code Verify’ does not log into Metadata and user messages, thus none of your information is shared with either Meta or WhatsApp. Everyone can verify what this extension does as it is open-sourced. After you start using this extension, it can display different messages like-

Code Verify for Desktop

  • Network Timeout – This will display an orange circle with a question mark when your network has timed out.
  • Possible Risk Detention -When there is another extension interfering with Code Verify again an orange circle with a question mark will pop up.
  • Validation failure – When the extension detects that you are using a different and unauthentic code of WhatsApp web, the code verify icon will turn red and shows an exclamation mark.
  • Validated – When you are using an authentic version of WhatsApp web, the code verification icon turns green.

This extension is currently available on Google Chrome, Mozilla, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge. According to the reports, you can also download it through your web browser store.
