1. Upload Your Video to YouTube

To start, head to the top-right corner of any YouTube page and click on the Camera icon. Select “Upload Video,” and either choose your file or drag and drop it. Customize your video’s description, tags, and other settings according to your preferences.

2. Set the Video to Private

In the Visibility drop-down menu on the right, choose “Private” under the Save or Publish menu. Following this, you’ll see a blue prompt under the Share Privately setting. Click on it and add the email addresses of the recipients you have in mind. Once done, click Save to confirm all your settings.

3. Add the Email Addresses of the Recipients

After setting the video to private, a blue prompt will appear for sharing privately. Click on it and add the email addresses of the intended recipients.

Click Done, and you should see the recipient email addresses under the Private setting. Confirm your settings and privately share the video.

It’s important to note that the video will only be visible to those recipients who are logged into YouTube with the specified email addresses.

How to Open and Watch a Private YouTube Video

If someone sends you a private YouTube video, the process to access it is relatively straightforward. Check your inbox for an email containing a distinctive image related to the video.

Open the email, and if you can’t find it, check your Spam, Trash, and Archive sections. You can also use the search bar in your email client by searching for “YouTube.”

Click on the image in the body of the email to access the private video. If everything has been set up correctly, you should be able to watch the video on YouTube. Note that due to its private status, comments are disabled.

Wind Up

While the method of private video sharing on YouTube may seem a bit more involved compared to simply generating a link on other platforms, it ensures a higher level of security by limiting access to specified email addresses.

This extra step might be seen as a trade-off for the added privacy it provides. It’s worth considering that, while platforms like Google Drive offer the advantage of maintaining original uncompressed file quality, YouTube’s private sharing feature is both cost-effective and easily controlled.

In the realm of small-scale video sharing, YouTube’s private sharing proves to be sufficient for most users. The choice between platforms ultimately depends on your priorities, with YouTube offering a secure and free option for those looking to share videos with a select audience.
