WhatsApp releasing GIF auto-Play for beta iOS users

In a previous article, the WhatsApp news portal already announced the GIF auto-play feature. But at that time it was rolled out only for beta Android users. The report mentioned that the company was applying some changes to GIFs in the way they are played. Before the update, you had to tap on the GIF to start its animation.

After installing the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.10.2 update GIFs now get automatically played as you scroll through the chat. In this current beta update, the platform is rolling out the same feature to some iOS beta testers.

WABetaInfo has also released a video of the GIF auto-play feature. In the video, you can see that the GIF is automatically playing when you open the conversation. The report further mentions that after the initial playback if you want to play the GIF again just tap on it. This means the automatic playback happens only the first time to avoid any distractions while chatting.

As mentioned earlier the GIF auto-play feature is currently available only to a few select iOS beta testers who install the latest 23.9.0.75 update from the TestFlight beta program. However, some users have also received it after installing an earlier WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.9.0.72 update. Those who have not received it yet, please wait for a few days as the platform will be rolling it out to more people in the coming days.
