WhatsApp rolling out the Picture-in-Picture mode for beta iOS users

WhatsApp is rolling out Picture in Picture mode for beta iOS users. The platform has submitted this update through the TestFlight beta program with this update the current version reaches 22.24.0.79. The same feature available within WhatsApp settings is 2.22.24.79. The TestFlight version of this feature is 22.24.0 (425288890).

According to the reports, some lucky beta testers can also get this same feature in the previous 22.24.0.77 and 22.24.0.78 updates. WhatsApp Picture-in-Picture Mode for iOS

A previous article released by WABetaInfo, the leading WhatsApp news portal reported some improvements made by the company. As per the report, that improvement included recognizing WhatsApp for Android as a companion device and the ability to search messages by date.

In this current beta update, the Meta-owned company is rolling out a new feature about WhatsApp calling which is available only to some select beta testers. Only those who install the latest version of WhatsApp beta for iOS from TestFlight will be able to see the new Picture-in-Picture Mode feature for video calls on the app.

The WhatsApp news source has also released a screenshot of the feature. The image reveals that this feature will let you use other apps while you are making a WhatsApp video call.

Check the availability of WhatsApp PIP mode for Video calls

To check if you are among those few lucky beta testers just start a video call and then try using any other app.

If the feature is enabled for your WhatsApp account, the new Picture-in-Pictures view will instantly pop up. The report further mentions that this feature uses official iOS APIs, so you also get the option to hide the video call if you wish. However, it can’t be hidden permanently.

According to the report, this feature is compatible with iOS 15 and other new iOS versions. But it is not yet confirmed if this feature is already available to iOS 15 users or not. However, the news source confirms that the Picture-in-Picture mode is working for iOS 16.1 and previous versions. It can be assumed that this update brings official support to this feature on iOS 16.
